Hey there you art, science, history, children’s preparator handler technicians. I saw this today, I think for the first time in all my years. It may be ordinary to some of you or an epiphany to others. In any case I thought I’d share this bit of behind the scenes at the museum magic. This simple board made this stack so firm and so compact. It was very nice tops around. I asked the trucker if I could shoot it and share it. Like many of you they were very glad that others recognized and appreciated a fun trick and were happy to share. Do you have a cool trick with blankets? A tidy rabbit? Have you written a sonnet or haiku about blankets? What’s you favorite color combination and why?

Keep on Tricking Ya’ll

Matt

It’s fairly simple to make, does anyone out there already have a template for this style of box? We should start a section dedicated templates for folded goods. The wee thing was only about 12″ tall by 6″ square. Notice how the lid folds over on itself, that’s key for holding some of this together. Once the lid comes off the front is made up of one continuous flap with a couple mini flaps that create closed corners when folded. When the long continuous flap come down the foam pieces can be carefully and better yet, easily pulled out. We place the foam pieces in reverse order as they came out so it’s easy to put them back the back the same way. In this case it would be hard to replace the foam in the wrong way; they were marked pretty well. That’s it. I would recommend making this box to anyone. What types of boxes do you make and why?

We had Ship Art International here the other day to crate our Claire Falkenstein and they whipped out this caddy for a 3M industrial strength low temperature glue gun and its glue sticks. Quick and dirty design, but effective and makes use of discarded materials most of us have around. Many thanks to Clay and Julie for letting me share this with all of you. By the way, if you haven’t already, you should invest in a glue gun like this. Not only does it have high output, but the low temperature won’t melt your material which could render the glue useless as it melts and recesses into the foam block (or whatever you’re working with). How about all of you, where do you keep you hot glue gun?
